Summer Is Served: West Pullman's Library and Park Fire Up Free Programs for the Whole Family

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/West Pullman ·

West Pullman residents have plenty of reasons to step outside — and inside — this June, as two of the neighborhood's most beloved public institutions roll out a full slate of free summer programming. The West Pullman Branch of the Chicago Public Library, located on 119th Street, is packed with community events running through the month, with programming sessions already underway this week on June 4th, 5th, and 7th, and additional events lined up for June 10th. It's the kind of neighborhood resource that quietly anchors a community — and right now it's buzzing.

Over at West Pullman Park on 123rd Street, the Chicago Park District is gearing up for its popular six-week summer day camp, with online registration already open and the season kicking off June 22nd. The park's 16-plus acres offer everything from an indoor swimming pool and gymnasiums to baseball fields, tennis and basketball courts, and a beloved spray pool — making it a true summertime destination for Far South Side families. Year-round skating and recreational programs are also winding down their spring sessions, making way for the full summer lineup.

And for neighbors with big ideas for their block, Alderman Anthony Beale's (9th Ward) office is actively pointing residents toward a small-grants program that funds resident-led projects right here in West Pullman. Whether you're dreaming up a community garden, a block beautification effort, or a neighborhood gathering, the funding could be yours. Check out ward09.com for details — and don't let this summer pass without getting involved.
