Humboldt Park Beach Opens June 19 — And the Neighborhood Has Even More Big Summer Wins to Celebrate

Humboldt Park neighbors have plenty of reasons to feel good heading into mid-June. The Chicago Park District just announced that Humboldt Park Beach will open on June 19 as part of a citywide expansion of summer aquatic access — and this year comes with a major upgrade. Outdoor pools will now operate seven days a week, eight hours a day, and the season has been extended by an additional week compared to last year, giving West Siders roughly 55 more hours of water time this summer. With over 700 trained lifeguards onboarded citywide, it's shaping up to be one of the most accessible summers on record at the lagoon.

The good news doesn't stop at the waterline. Back in January, the Hispanic Housing Development Corporation broke ground on the redevelopment of Humboldt Park's historic Pioneer Arcade, which will be converted into 61 units of affordable senior housing — a project that signals continued momentum for community-rooted development along Division Street. And in a separate win for the neighborhood's North Avenue corridor, Mayor Brandon Johnson's administration awarded the Chicago Community Justice Foundation a $2.3 million city grant toward an $8.5 million center at 3841–49 W. North Ave. that will house agencies offering legal aid, mental health, educational, and workforce development services to residents.
