Free Yoga, Live Music & Open Mics All Summer Long: Wicker Park's Advisory Council Is Turning the Park Into a Community Living Room

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Wicker Park ·

Summer is officially in full swing in Wicker Park — and the neighborhood's namesake green space is bursting with free, community-powered programming every week through August. The Wicker Park Advisory Council (WPAC) has lined up a packed warm-weather calendar that gives neighbors plenty of reasons to pull out a blanket and head outside.

Every Tuesday evening from 6:30–7:30 p.m., Chi Yoga Shack leads free outdoor yoga classes in the park — rain or shine, mats and water bottles welcome. Thursday nights are for Diva Dance, with free community fitness classes open to all. And when the mood calls for something a little more spontaneous, Wicker MIC — WPAC's beloved open-mic series and a proud Chicago Park District Night Out in the Parks event — invites musicians, comedians, poets, and actors of all ages to take the stage and share their talents with neighbors. Bring a picnic and a talent to share.

The park itself is as beautiful as ever thanks to the Wicker Park Garden Club's volunteer gardeners, who tend the park's 10,000 square feet of ornamental gardens every Saturday during the growing season — and welcome anyone who wants to learn hands-on how to design and maintain a garden of their own. Whether you're a longtime regular or discovering the park for the first time this summer, there's never been a better moment to show up and be part of it. Check wickerpark.org for the full schedule and get outside!
