A Long-Vacant Logan Square Landmark Is Finally Getting New Life — As a Major Gym
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Logan Square ·
Logan Square neighbors, that big empty building staring back at you from across the newly beautified square is finally getting its glow-up. Plans are progressing for the commercial redevelopment of the former Grace's Furniture showroom at 2618 N. Milwaukee Avenue — a five-story, 1914-built structure sitting right across from the neighborhood's freshly transformed traffic circle — into a large-format gym under the Chicago Athletic Clubs brand.
The building has sat vacant since 2010, and the road to revival has been anything but straight. Developers Blue Star Properties and Marc Realty have been working the site for over six years, pivoting from an earlier hotel concept before landing on the gym plan. Now, with the surrounding plaza transformation complete and foot traffic in the square surging, momentum appears to finally be building in earnest.
For a neighborhood that prides itself on walkability and active street life, a flagship fitness destination steps from the Blue Line and the new La Placita could be a perfect next chapter for one of Milwaukee Avenue's most prominent vacant properties. Logan Square, what do you think — is a Chicago Athletic Club the right fit for this corner? Drop your take on Socialhood and let your neighbors know!
