Near North Is Your Summer Wellness HQ: Free Classical Music, a Fitness Festival, and a Landmark Anniversary Are All Coming Your Way

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Near North ·

Near North neighbors, your neighborhood is stacking up one of its most activity-packed summers in recent memory — and there's something on the calendar for absolutely everyone.

First, if you haven't yet made it to Holy Name Cathedral on a Tuesday evening, now is the time. Classical Music Chicago's beloved Rush Hour Concerts are back for their 27th season, bringing free live chamber music to 735 N. State St. every Tuesday from June 9 through August 18. Doors open at 5 p.m., with a pre-concert talk at 5:15 and the performance running 5:45–6:30 p.m. — a perfect midweek reset right in your backyard. Then, mark your calendars for July 25–26, when River North transforms into a full-blown wellness destination: Faces of Fitness is taking over 421 W. Locust St. with a two-day outdoor festival combining studio-quality fitness classes led by nationally recognized instructors, live music, wellness brands, and celebrity guests. It's been described as "Lollapalooza but for fitness, health and wellness" — and it's happening right here in River North.

And the biggest neighborhood milestone of the summer? The Taste of River North returns July 17–18 for its landmark 25th year on Wells Street between Ontario and Superior, free and open to all ages, with signature dishes, live entertainment, a Kids Zone, and even a Saturday Dog Parade. Near North is clearly THE place to be this July. Which event are you most excited about? Let your neighbors know in the Socialhood comments below!
