New Digs & New Drinks: Vitalogy Bar Opens in Printer's Row as 626 S. Wabash Rises Fast
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/South Loop ·
The South Loop's street-level scene just got a whole lot livelier — and the neighborhood's skyline is creeping higher by the day.
First, the toast-worthy news: Vitalogy, a brand-new neighborhood bar, has opened its doors in a 142-year-old building in Printer's Row. Owners Jennifer Wilson and James Shields have transformed the historic ground floor into a warm, welcoming hangout featuring a long wooden bar, reclaimed fixtures, and — only in the Sloop — a hydroponic herb garden. The drinks menu leans into Chicago pride with global beers and locally inspired cocktails, including a "Second City Milk Punch" made with Malört. Wilson and Shields have been vocal about their vision: they want Vitalogy to be a true community hub, with happy hour deals, cocktail classes, and live music on the calendar. Consider this your new go-to for a post-work pour.
Meanwhile, the Sloop's construction boom shows zero signs of slowing down. At 626 South Wabash — rising dramatically right alongside the 'L' tracks — crews have already poured concrete up to the second level. When finished, the 19-story tower will bring 164 residential units (co-living suites, efficiency units, and two-bedrooms) plus ground-floor retail to the neighborhood. Co-developers DAC Development and Melrose Ascension Capital are targeting a fall 2026 opening. Between a charming new bar and a bold new tower, the Sloop is stacking up wins this summer.
