Logan Square's Farmers Market Is Thriving in Its New Home — And Local Artists Just Painted the Neighborhood's Boldest Mural Yet
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Logan Square ·
Logan Square is having quite the summer, and two fresh developments this week prove the neighborhood's community spirit is firing on all cylinders.
First, the Logan Square Farmers Market is officially settling into its new permanent home at the redesigned square — and neighbors and vendors couldn't be happier about it. Even turbulent Fourth of July weekend weather couldn't keep thousands from making their Sunday pilgrimage to shop and stroll. The market, which moved to its permanent spot in May after years of bouncing around due to area construction, now features 103 rotating farmers and food vendors lined up inside the plaza and along Logan Boulevard, plus 14 rotating vintage vendors at La Placita in front of Kedzie Avenue businesses. Vendors like Kyle Washington of Frogtown Juice Co. are already reporting higher sales than in previous years, crediting the new layout's improved visibility and shopper flow. "The way the layout is now, it allows people to be more intentional" with their shopping, Washington said. Co-owner Kevin Gorman of Gorman Farm Fresh Produce agreed: "So far it's been good for business and we are happy with the new location."
Meanwhile, Logan Square's walls are getting a major artistic upgrade. A stunning new collaborative mural by 17 Chicago artists has debuted under the I-90 viaduct at Western Avenue and Logan Boulevard, organized by artists James Sturnfield and BboyB. The sprawling piece mixes portraits, graffiti-style lettering, and vibrant street art — all created by local talent — with the explicit goal of showcasing homegrown Chicago artists and encouraging residents and businesses to hire local. It's the neighborhood beautifying itself, one wall at a time.
From a booming farmers market to bold new public art, Logan Square's community pulse has never felt stronger this summer. Have you visited the market's new setup or spotted the new mural yet? Share your photos and thoughts with your neighbors on Socialhood!
