Your Neighborhood Is Getting a Fresh Green Space: Montgomery Ward Park Ribbon-Cutting Is Coming July 22nd

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Near North ·

Near North neighbors, here's some exciting news to kick off your weekend: a brand-new chapter for one of River North's beloved green spaces is just around the corner. Alderman Brendan Reilly and the River North Residents Association (RNRA) are inviting all residents to a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Montgomery Ward Park on Tuesday, July 22nd at 10:00 a.m. — and you won't want to miss it.

The event marks a meaningful moment for the community, as the park — named for the legendary Chicago merchant and mail-order pioneer Aaron Montgomery Ward, who famously fought to preserve the lakefront as public open space — gets a fresh new update. The RNRA, the volunteer-led nonprofit dedicated to protecting and enhancing quality of life in River North, is co-hosting the event alongside the alderman's office, making this a true neighborhood celebration. It's a rare chance to gather with your neighbors, meet local leaders, and celebrate a shared public space right in your own backyard.

With the FIFA World Cup watch parties already buzzing at Parlay River North and the Taste of River North still on the horizon for July 17–18, this ribbon-cutting is one more reason that July 2026 is shaping up to be an unforgettable month for Near North.
