Humboldt Park's Newest Cultural Hub Is Packed With Things to Do This July — Meet the House of Belonging
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Humboldt Park ·
Humboldt Park has a vibrant new creative home, and July is the month to discover it. Collaboraction Theatre Company has unveiled its full July programming lineup at its new House of Belonging, tucked inside the Kimball Arts Center right in the heart of the neighborhood. From theater and spoken word to live music and improv, the space is quickly becoming one of the West Side's most exciting cultural destinations.
The anchor of the month is Collaboraction's You Belong Here series — a community-forward initiative curated by Sandra Delgado that gives independent artists and emerging organizations access to free performance space, stage management, marketing support, and a revenue-sharing model. Highlights this month include the ¡AH HUEVO! Bilingual Improv School Student Showcase, a storytelling evening focused on the trans community hosted by Archy Jamjun and Chijioke Williams, and a monthly open mic night produced by The Luminaries that kicks off with a guided creative workshop before opening the stage to local artists and students. Later in the month, on July 25, musician Frankie Diaz celebrates 20 years in music with an all-Spanish solo concert featuring original salsa, bolero, cha-cha, and Puerto Rican folk music — a natural love letter to the neighborhood's rich cultural soul.
Rounding out the month is a special gathering series led by Collaboraction Executive Director DJ Lady D, featuring artist Roy Kinsey in a conversation exploring hip-hop, literacy, storytelling, and cultural memory through music and movement. With proceeds from select events benefiting Collaboraction's youth program, The Light, the House of Belonging is truly living up to its name. Head to collaboraction.org to browse the full July calendar and grab your tickets — this is Humboldt Park culture at its finest.
