Chicago's Inaugural Italian Beef Fest Is 18 Days Away — and Little Italy's Culinary DNA Is All Over It

University Village Little Italy has long been the spiritual home of Chicago's Italian-American food story, and this summer that story is taking a bold new form. The inaugural Chicago Italian Beef Fest is set to debut July 31–August 2, 2026, and while the festival plants its flag at Jefferson Memorial Park, its roots run straight through Taylor Street and the immigrant kitchen traditions that define this neighborhood.
The three-day celebration honors a sandwich born from exactly the kind of Italian immigrant ingenuity that shaped Little Italy generations ago. Chicagoland favorites like Bust Outs, Genoa Italian Concessions, and Leona's Restaurant — a beloved institution since 1950 — will serve their signature takes on the iconic dipped, dry, or pepper-loaded sandwich, with attendees voting for the Best Italian Beef Sandwich.
