River North's Art Scene Is Having a Moment: A Gallery Walk Milestone and a World-Famous Art Installation Light Up the Neighborhood

Near North neighbors, your neighborhood's creative side is shining brighter than ever this summer — and there are two unmissable art experiences happening right in your backyard. First, if you haven't yet explored the River North gallery district this season, now's your chance: the Mid-Summer River North Gallery Walk took place July 8th, but the good news is the exhibitions are still running through August, giving neighbors plenty of time to catch the shows during a weekend stroll. The self-guided route lets you meet artists, curators, and gallery staff up close — and it's completely free and open to the public.

Looking ahead, art lovers will want to save September 11th on their calendars for a truly landmark occasion: the 10th Annual River North Design District Gallery Walk, presented by Sherwin-Williams, is coming this fall. The celebration brings together twenty-one design showrooms and galleries, pairing original artwork with stunning vignettes crafted by Chicago's top designers — and a portion of proceeds will benefit the Tunnel to Towers Homeless Veterans Program. Tickets go on sale this month.

And every evening, don't forget to look up: Art on theMART — the world's largest video projection art installation — continues its spectacular run on the south face of theMART along the Chicago Riverwalk, best viewed from the south bank between Wells and Franklin.
