Logan Square Is Getting a Brand-New Public Plaza — And a CTA-Inspired Ice Cream Collab You Need to Try

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Logan Square ·

Logan Square, your neighborhood's transformation is far from over. Construction crews have officially broken ground on a brand-new public plaza at 2550 N. Milwaukee Ave., occupying a portion of the long-dormant former Megamall site near Andros Taverna and La Boulangerie. The plaza — which has been in the works since at least 2024 — is envisioned as a community gathering hub right in the heart of the neighborhood. Ald. Anthony Quezada (35th) described the vision as "a welcoming public space that supports local economic development and provides opportunities for community gathering and events." With Milwaukee Avenue already buzzing from the redesigned square and La Placita, this new green space promises to give neighbors yet another reason to linger, meet up, and celebrate the neighborhood they love.

And while construction crews are busy shaping tomorrow's Logan Square, there's something sweet to enjoy today. Pretty Cool Ice Cream, the beloved local scoop shop, has teamed up with the CTA to create four custom ice cream pops — each one inspired by a different Chicago train line, with its own signature flavor. Owner Dana Cree dreamed up the playful collaboration, making it the most deliciously local way to celebrate Chicago's iconic transit system this summer.

From a brand-new public plaza rising on Milwaukee Avenue to ice cream that pays homage to the city's beloved L trains, Logan Square is giving neighbors plenty to celebrate as July wraps up. Have you spotted construction on the new Megamall plaza, or tracked down one of Pretty Cool's CTA-inspired pops yet? Share your finds and thoughts with your neighbors on Socialhood!
