Archer Heights neighbors have just two days left to make their voices heard on one of the most ambitious planning efforts the Southwest Side has seen in decades — and the details inside the Moving Archer Forward draft plan are worth knowing before you weigh in.

Beyond the headline housing numbers, the plan lays out specific station-area visions for CTA Orange Line stops that touch the corridor. Concepts for the Pulaski and 35th/Archer stations include added greenery, pedestrian safety measures, and flexible spaces designed to host community events. At Halsted, planners envision a formal transit plaza, a relocated bus stop, and multilingual signage. The plan also identifies 31 possible sites for equitable transit-oriented development — totaling roughly 13 acres — where future mixed-use buildings could bring affordable housing, ground-floor businesses, green roofs, and public gathering spaces to life along Archer Avenue. That community input was hard-won: more than 2,600 residents participated in the planning process through surveys, pop-up events, and focus groups.
