Roots and Renewal: Graceland West Celebrates Its 44th Annual Garden Walk — and Welcomes Fresh Faces to Community Leadership

Graceland West's green thumb was on full display this summer as the neighborhood celebrated its 44th Annual Garden Walk on Sunday, July 12, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. The beloved tradition invited neighbors to throw open the gates to their backyards, front-porch pollinator gardens, and hidden patio oases for a self-guided stroll through some of the most lovingly tended private green spaces on Chicago's North Side. From meticulously landscaped yards to charming side-yard veggie patches, the walk was a vivid reminder of just how deeply rooted — literally — the Graceland West community is in the beauty of the natural world.
The timing couldn't have felt more fitting. Coming on the heels of the GWCA's spring pollinator milestone and a summer of freshly reseeded park grass, the Garden Walk underscored what makes this neighborhood so special: neighbors who genuinely invest in the spaces they share. For the GWCA, now in its 47th year as an all-volunteer nonprofit, events like these are the connective tissue of community life — the kind of afternoon that turns acquaintances into neighbors and neighbors into friends.
