Tricks, Trivia, and Treasure Hunts: Graceland West's Halloween Season Is Packed with Free Family Fun
By Socialhood News · Graceland West ·
October has arrived in Graceland West, and the Graceland West Community Association (GWCA) is pulling out all the stops for Halloween — with not one, not two, but three distinct events designed to get every age group into the spirit. From a free kids' party in the park to an adults-only trivia night steeped in Chicago history, the neighborhood is turning its favorite season into a full community celebration.
Anchor the calendar around the GWCA's Annual Halloween Party, returning to Warner Park & Gardens (1444–46 Warner Ave.) on Saturday, October 26, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. The party is completely free for all Graceland West residents and their families, with fun activities, treats, and festive Halloween atmosphere for kids and adults alike. Costumes are highly encouraged — so start planning now. Warner Park, the neighborhood's beloved green centerpiece, has hosted this tradition for years, and the GWCA has made it clear the 2026 edition will be no exception.
Before you show up to the party, though, GWCA is inviting families to earn their fun the old-fashioned way: with a neighborhood Halloween Scavenger Hunt. Participants download the scavenger hunt form from the GWCA website (or save a copy on their phone), then set off on foot through the neighborhood to find as many spooky decorations as they can from a provided list. Completed responses can be brought to the Halloween Party at Warner Park on October 26 — making the hunt a perfect warm-up activity for the main event and a great excuse to explore every block between Ashland, Montrose, Clark, and Irving Park Road.
For neighbors who prefer their Halloween with a craft cocktail and a competitive streak, the GWCA is also hosting a Spooky Trivia Night at the Maxwell-Hutchinson House. This adults-only evening tests knowledge of Chicago and neighborhood history, paired with drinks, bites, and good company. Tickets are $50 per person, and registration is available through the Graceland West Experience Parties portal. It's the kind of event that rewards the neighbors who've been paying attention — to local lore, architectural history, and the deeper story of a community that's been actively building itself since 1979.
These three Halloween offerings reflect something the GWCA does particularly well: layering events so that every resident — toddler in a dragon costume, trivia-obsessed empty-nester, or family new to the block — has a reason to come outside and connect. The free Halloween Party at Warner Park is the neighborhood's open door; the scavenger hunt adds an adventure that spans the whole neighborhood; and the trivia night gives adults their own evening to celebrate.
Warner Park itself has been a busy and beloved spot this year. Earlier in the season, the GWCA hosted a Kid's Pollinator Planting event there, which the association described as "an absolute blast," with children getting their hands dirty to help establish new plantings that are now visibly thriving in the park. Neighbors strolling past can already see the results of that effort — a small but meaningful addition to the park's green footprint.
To volunteer at the Halloween Party, or if you have questions about any of the events, the GWCA welcomes outreach at [email protected]. Full event details, the scavenger hunt download, and registration links for Spooky Trivia Night are available at gracelandwest.org. Mark October 26 on your calendar, charge your phone for the scavenger hunt map, and don't forget the costume.
