Fresh Reads & Fresh Produce: Jefferson Park's Beloved Bookstore Goes Mobile — And a Major Grocery Store Is on the Way
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Jefferson Park ·
Jefferson Park neighbors, your neighborhood is leveling up — and it's happening on two very different but equally exciting fronts. First, a homegrown literary gem is spreading its wings. Plot Twist Used Books, the beloved independent bookstore at 5938 W. Lawrence Ave., is expanding its reach with a brand-new mobile option, bringing its curated shelves of used books directly to community events and surrounding neighborhoods. Rather than opening a second brick-and-mortar location, the shop is hitting the road — meaning the Northwest Side's favorite indie bookstore could pop up right at your next local gathering.
And on the grocery front, big news has been quietly brewing at 6200 W. Higgins Ave. Sprouts Farmers Market — a health-focused, $7.7 billion national retailer — is set to open its very first Chicago store right here in Jefferson Park, taking over the long-vacant former CVS Pharmacy site. With more than 455 stores across 24 states, Sprouts is known for its emphasis on fresh produce, natural foods, and organic options. Alderman James Gardiner championed the project after hearing loud and clear from residents that the community wanted a quality grocery store. The store, measuring approximately 22,000 square feet, is projected to open in April 2027 pending final approvals and construction completion.
From a roaming bookshop to a health-forward grocery anchor, Jefferson Park's commercial scene is on the move. Follow the Jefferson Park Chamber of Commerce and Jefferson Park Forward for the latest updates as these exciting neighborhood additions take shape!
