Good news is simmering on Milwaukee Avenue. Chicago Pickle Eatery — the wildly popular bodega-style sandwich shop that put down its Avondale roots before expanding across the city — is working its way back to Bricktown after a fire forced its temporary closure last September.

Owner Mohamad Atieh confirmed earlier this year that he's targeting a reopening of the original Milwaukee Avenue location at 3022 N. Milwaukee Ave. by the end of 2026. The Avondale outpost holds a special place in the brand's story: it was the very first Chicago Pickle location, launched in 2023 with a mission to bring New York City bodega-style sandwiches and breakfast staples to the northwest side. Since then, Atieh has expanded to Uptown and — most recently — to Wicker Park, where a third location quietly opened this past spring. But for Bricktown regulars who've been missing their pastrami-and-pickle fix right in the neighborhood, the homecoming can't come soon enough. The shop's signature Chicago Pickle sandwich — piled with pastrami, corned beef, Swiss, coleslaw, Russian dressing, and of course pickles — has earned a devoted following, and neighbors have been counting the days.
