Alo Yoga Is Coming to Wicker Park — and It's Eyeing the Legendary Double Door Address on Milwaukee Avenue

Milwaukee Avenue is about to get a new kind of destination. Alo Yoga — the Los Angeles-based athletic apparel brand that has been steadily expanding across the country — is coming to Wicker Park, with a new retail store planned for 1572 N. Milwaukee Ave. The news, reported just yesterday by What Now Chicago, marks one of the more closely watched retail arrivals on the corridor in recent memory, not least because of the address itself.
For longtime neighbors, 1572 N. Milwaukee Ave. carries real weight. That storefront was home for more than two decades to Double Door, the beloved rock club that became one of the defining venues of Wicker Park's '90s music scene — hosting everyone from the Rolling Stones to local bands just starting out. Double Door closed in 2017 after a protracted lease dispute with its landlord, and the building has cycled through a handful of uses since. An Alo Yoga store would be its most prominent tenant in years.
The new Wicker Park location will be Alo's second store in Chicago. The brand currently operates one location at 717 N. Michigan Ave. on the Magnificent Mile, along with additional Chicagoland stores in Skokie and elsewhere. The team is aiming to open the Milwaukee Avenue store around Q4 of this year — meaning neighbors could be shopping there before the holiday season is out.
Alo Yoga is known for its premium yoga and athleisure apparel, a category that has found a loyal following in fitness-forward urban neighborhoods like Wicker Park. The brand's arrival also fits neatly into the neighborhood's existing wellness culture: the Wicker Park Advisory Council has been running free weekly Yoga in the Park sessions with Chi Yoga Shack at 1425 N. Damen Ave. all summer as part of the Chicago Park District's Night Out in the Parks program. A dedicated yoga apparel boutique a few blocks up Milwaukee adds one more piece to that picture.
The Milwaukee Avenue corridor has been on something of a roll in 2026. Earlier this summer, Craft & Carvery opened its brick-and-mortar sandwich and pizza shop on the strip, and Chicago Pickle Eatery took over the former Angry Crab space at 1308 N. Milwaukee. Retail has been slower to follow the dining wave — which makes the Alo announcement a notable signal that the foot traffic momentum is now drawing apparel brands, too.
