De Colores Is Almost Here: Andersonville's Most Anticipated New Restaurant Sets Mid-October Opening

By Socialhood News · Andersonville ·

Andersonville is days away from welcoming one of its most eagerly anticipated new restaurants of the year. De Colores Mexican Grill, the sit-down Latin fusion concept from Patricia Guerrero — the owner behind beloved Edgewater Tacos — is set to open mid-October at 5403 N. Clark St., filling a storefront that has sat empty since Cesca's Margarita Bar & Grill closed late last year after a decade in business.

Guerrero offered a preview of the space to guests on September 23, giving neighbors a first look at a restaurant she describes as a long time coming. "This has been roughly 25 years in the making," she told Block Club Chicago. "I've lived on the same block for 53 years, so Edgewater and Andersonville is my home. To be here in my neighborhood is such a blessing." Opening a business on Clark Street's well-known corridor of independent shops and restaurants, she added, feels "surreal."

De Colores is a significant step up in scale and ambition from Edgewater Tacos, Guerrero's primarily take-out Mexican spot at 5624 N. Broadway. The new Andersonville location will offer full sit-down service, a rear patio, and a full bar — a notably different format that broadens both her reach and the neighborhood's dining options. The design was led by Benjamin Bloom of the Bloom design firm, who took the lead on the year-long renovation Guerrero undertook after leasing the space.

The opening caps a year of meaningful change along the Clark Street corridor. It also arrives as Andersonville's event calendar hits its final October stretch. The 17th annual Andersonville Farmers Market — running Wednesdays from 3 to 7 p.m. at the 1500 block of W. Winona Street — has just two more Wednesday markets left before its October 21 season finale. Featuring more than 60 vendors, everything sold at the market is grown or produced within a 200-mile radius. This Wednesday, October 7, is one of the last chances to catch it before the outdoor season wraps.

Looking slightly further ahead, Bingofesten — the neighborhood's recurring monthly social gathering — returns on Tuesday, October 13. The event takes place on the second Tuesday of each month and offers a casual evening out with a distinctly Andersonville feel. Then, from October 25 through October 31, Aville-o-ween brings the neighborhood's beloved Halloween celebration back to Clark Street, capping the month with one of Andersonville's most festive recurring traditions.

For residents and visitors who want to stay current on De Colores' official opening date and hours as mid-October approaches, watching Guerrero's social channels and the Andersonville Chamber of Commerce at andersonville.org is the best way to stay in the loop. And if you haven't yet made it to the Farmers Market this season, Wednesday at 1500 W. Winona is your second-to-last chance — before the neighborhood turns its attention fully to the warmth and color of an Andersonville October.
