Washington Park's Harvest Garden Hosts Fall Festival, Community Celebrates Record Crop Yield

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Washington Park ·

Washington Park's popular Harvest Garden is celebrating a successful growing season with their first-ever Fall Harvest Festival this weekend. The organic gardening program, which teaches neighborhood kids how to plant, maintain, and harvest edible gardens, has become a cornerstone of community engagement in the park.

The event is part of Mayor Brandon Johnson's Chicago Fall Fest 2025 initiative, which runs from October 17 to November 2 across the city. The citywide celebration aims to ensure all youth and residents have a celebratory and safe fall season, with Washington Park's garden showcase being one of the highlighted community events. Visitors can expect garden tours, cooking demonstrations using freshly harvested produce, craft activities, and educational sessions about organic gardening practices. Local gardening experts will be on hand to answer questions about starting home gardens and extending growing seasons.

Residents interested in participating in next year's garden program can sign up at the event or visit the Washington Park fieldhouse for more information. "This garden has become more than just a place to grow food—it's where we grow community," said Harvest Garden coordinator Tamika Williams. "We invite everyone to come celebrate what we've accomplished together and learn how you can get involved in 2026."
