L1 Creative Business Accelerator Enters New Chapter with 2025 Activations at Washington Park
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Washington Park ·
Washington Park's creative business scene is getting a major boost this November as Arts + Public Life (APL) continues its deepened commitment to entrepreneurship on the South Side throughout 2025. Following the March grand reopening of the L1 Retail Store, the space has become a vibrant hub showcasing local talent including Entrepreneur-in-Residence Peter Gaona, founder of ReformedSchool, who will display his unique designs alongside curated selections from South Side brands through June 2026.
Located at 319 E. Garfield Boulevard inside the historic first "L" station built in 1892, the L1 Retail Store represents APL's expanded commitment to supporting creative entrepreneurs that began in 2013 with their annual Vends + Vibes holiday marketplace. The initiative serves as a neighborhood platform for arts and culture in Washington Park, providing residencies for local artists and creative entrepreneurs while grounding its work in cultural stewardship and community partnership. Residents and commuters are invited to visit this "third space" just steps from the Garfield Green Line CTA stop, where they can unwind between work and home, enjoy a unique soundscape, refreshments, and even participate in card and board games while experiencing new sound sculptures created by Chicago artists. For more information on upcoming events or to support local entrepreneurs, visit the L1 Retail Store during business hours or check out shopL1.org.
