Washington Park's Urban Harvest Garden Expands with New Culinary Education Program

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Washington Park ·

Washington Park residents will soon have expanded access to fresh produce and culinary education thanks to a significant expansion of the neighborhood's Urban Harvest Garden. The popular community growing space, which has become a cornerstone of neighborhood engagement, announced this week it will launch a new culinary education initiative beginning December 2025.

The program will feature cooking demonstrations using garden-fresh produce, nutritional education workshops, and a partnership with local chefs to teach residents how to prepare affordable, healthy meals. "This garden has become more than just a place to grow food—it's where we grow community," explained garden coordinator Marcus Williams. "Our expansion allows us to connect the dots between growing food and preparing nutritious meals, while providing valuable skills to neighborhood residents."

Community members interested in participating in the culinary program can sign up at the Washington Park fieldhouse, with classes scheduled to begin the second week of December. The expansion builds upon Washington Park's growing reputation as a hub for urban agriculture and community-based food initiatives on Chicago's South Side.
