Construction Begins on New Mixed-Use Building at Argyle and Winthrop in Uptown

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Uptown ·

Uptown's Argyle Street corridor continues its renaissance as construction has officially begun on a new five-story mixed-use development at 1101 W. Argyle. The $5 million project, located at the southwest corner of Argyle and Winthrop Avenue, received its full building permit earlier this month after clearing regulatory hurdles.

Developed by owner Paul Tsang and designed by Compass Architecture LLC, the modern building will feature 16 residential units on its upper floors with ground-floor retail space that will front both Argyle Street and Winthrop Avenue. The development includes eight indoor parking spaces and is strategically located steps from the Argyle Red Line station, enhancing the neighborhood's transit-oriented development footprint. The building's design includes a light tan brick façade with inset balconies overlooking Argyle Street and metal balconies on the south elevation.

Residents interested in the project's progress can watch as construction transforms this previously vacant lot into a vibrant addition to the neighborhood. The development represents another positive step in Uptown's ongoing commercial corridor improvements, bringing new housing options and retail opportunities to the diverse Argyle district. Community members can follow updates on the project through the Uptown Chamber of Commerce website.
