Holiday Book Fair and Local Author Series Launches at Wicker Park's Barnes & Noble
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Wicker Park ·
Wicker Park's newest literary destination is embracing the holiday season with a special series of community events. Barnes & Noble, which opened last month in the historic Noel State Bank building at 1601 N. Milwaukee Avenue, has announced a month-long Holiday Book Fair featuring local Chicago authors every weekend throughout December 2025.
The ornate neoclassical building with its stained-glass ceiling and gilt revolving doors provides a magical backdrop for the seasonal celebration. "We wanted to create something special that brings together local literary talent and holiday shoppers in this magnificent space," explained store manager James Pioth. The series will showcase diverse Chicago voices with book signings, readings, and panel discussions focused on neighborhood stories. The bookstore has partnered with nearby Lula Café to provide refreshments during the evening events, further strengthening connections between neighborhood businesses.
Community members are encouraged to participate in the "Books for Bucktown" donation drive happening simultaneously, which will provide new books to area schools and community centers. The store's weekend events will run from 1-5pm each Saturday and Sunday in December, with the kickoff celebration scheduled for December 6th featuring readings from Chicago's poet laureate and a special children's story hour.
