Historic Immaculata High School Project Moves Forward with Innovative Funding Approach
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Uptown ·
The long-awaited redevelopment of the former Immaculata High School in Uptown is gaining momentum, with construction potentially beginning next year under an innovative funding approach that allows investors to purchase shares in the building through cryptocurrency.
Developer K Giles plans to transform the historic landmark into 'Immaculata Living' with 235 modern apartments while preserving architectural features. The 1,000-seat auditorium will become a lounge and co-working space with a cafe, while the gymnasium will be converted into a contemporary exercise facility. A second phase will add a 22-story L-shaped tower dedicated to senior living with 108 independent living units, 60 assisted living apartments, and 32 memory care units. The American Islamic College, the current property owner, plans to maintain a presence in Uptown by offering non-degree courses to residents in subjects like literature, history and languages.
With construction expected to take 36 months, the development team is targeting a 2028 completion date for the $210 million project. The transformation preserves a Chicago landmark while creating much-needed housing options for the neighborhood. Community members interested in learning more can visit the project's website or attend upcoming information sessions where developers will share additional details about this significant addition to Uptown's housing landscape.
