Washington Park Framework Plan to Launch Community Engagement Sessions This January
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Washington Park ·
The Chicago Park District is kicking off 2026 with renewed focus on Washington Park as it prepares to engage community members in a vital planning process to determine the vision for the historic greenspace. Beginning this January, residents will have their first opportunity to participate in the Washington Park Framework Plan community sessions that were announced in Spring 2022.
The project team is being led by MUSE Community + Design, a woman-owned urban planning firm with extensive experience in equity-centered planning processes across Chicago. Supporting the initiative is Rudd Resources, a woman and Black-owned public relations firm based on the South Side that will lead community engagement efforts, while the award-winning landscape architecture team at Hitchcock Design Group handles technical and design aspects. Community input will help shape the future of this treasured 345-acre park designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, potentially enhancing its existing amenities which include a lagoon, aquatic center, playgrounds, athletic courts, and the renowned Fountain of Time sculpture.
Residents interested in participating in these visioning sessions can contact the Washington Park Chamber of Commerce or visit the Chicago Park District website for dates and locations of upcoming January meetings. The Chamber will also be hosting several "Unity in the Park" events throughout January where community members can learn more about the Framework Plan and other neighborhood developments.
