Mosaic Master Jim Bachor Expands Uptown's Art Scene with New Gallery
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Uptown ·
Uptown's vibrant arts community continues to grow with the recent opening of renowned mosaic artist Jim Bachor's new gallery and studio at 1111 W. Lawrence Avenue. Located directly across from the historic Aragon Ballroom, this 1,000-square-foot space showcases Bachor's distinctive artwork while adding to Uptown's emerging artistic hub.
Bachor, famously known as the "Pothole Picasso" for his guerrilla art installations that transform Chicago's street craters into miniature masterpieces, is using this new venue to return to his fine art roots. The gallery features his signature mosaics created using ancient Italian techniques, alongside prints, merchandise, and educational opportunities. Visitors can view everything from detailed recreations of artistic masterpieces to whimsical modern subjects like ice cream treats and lottery tickets—all crafted with marble, glass and concrete that can withstand the test of time.
The gallery joins other recent artistic ventures on Lawrence Avenue including Studio W.I.P. and PopCraft, creating what's becoming a dynamic creative corridor in the neighborhood. Uptown residents and visitors are encouraged to stop by the gallery to witness Bachor's meticulous craftsmanship firsthand and learn about upcoming mosaic workshops that will be offered to the community later this year.
