Washington Park's basketball courts are set for a meaningful upgrade as the WNBA prepares to bring its All-Star Weekend to Chicago July 23-25, 2026. As part of the celebration, the Chicago Park District will paint official WNBA three-point lines on all city basketball courts, including those in Washington Park, giving young players a chance to practice where the pros shoot.
The initiative comes as part of a larger community engagement effort surrounding the All-Star Game, which will include a fan festival, business innovation summit, and various community activities throughout Chicago. "Let's not understate the significance that this holds for women's sports. I think we can all agree it's about damn time," Governor JB Pritzker remarked at Friday's announcement event. Mayor Brandon Johnson echoed this enthusiasm, expressing excitement about Chicago welcoming tens of thousands of basketball fans from across the country for the high-profile sporting event.
Residents interested in volunteering or participating in All-Star Weekend activities can contact the Washington Park Chamber of Commerce for information about community involvement opportunities. The Chamber will also host special basketball clinics for neighborhood youth in the newly marked courts this spring to celebrate the upcoming event and inspire the next generation of athletes.
