New Mixed-Use Development Coming to Historic Uptown Parking Lot at Broadway and Clifton

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Uptown ·

Uptown's skyline will soon see a new addition as plans have been approved for a five-story mixed-use development at 4725 North Clifton Avenue. Located at the intersection with North Broadway, this exciting project will transform part of a large parking lot that has remained vacant since the early 1980s, just north of the historic Uptown Broadway Building. The development is being led by CEDARst Companies, best known for their Flats developments, with design by local firm Hirsch MPG.

Approved by the Plan Review Committee last week, the project will bring 40 residential units to the neighborhood along with vibrant retail space. The ground floor will feature a spacious retail area on the southern half closer to Broadway, while the northern portion will house a residential lobby and loading area. This development represents significant progress in filling long-vacant spaces in Uptown's historic entertainment district.

Community members have been waiting for this transformation for decades, as the lot has been empty since at least the early 1980s when previous structures were demolished. While this project addresses only part of the parking lot, developers expect additional buildings to eventually fill the remainder of the space. The project thoughtfully balances Uptown's historical prominence as an entertainment district with the need for transit-oriented residential development near the recently rebuilt Red Line station. Residents interested in learning more about this exciting addition to the neighborhood can visit the CEDARst Companies website for project updates and leasing information.
