Local Artist Transforms Andersonville's Streetscape with Vibrant Utility Box Paintings

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Andersonville ·

Andersonville residents are discovering art in unexpected places as Chicago portrait artist Gabi Bozeman has brought new life to the neighborhood's previously unremarkable utility boxes. The artistic transformation, initiated by the Andersonville Chamber of Commerce after spotting Bozeman's work at Visionary Eye Care Professionals last fall, now features seven uniquely painted utility boxes throughout the community.

What makes these street-level installations special is the intimate connection they create between viewers and the artwork. "Art is already so high priced and it's usually hoarded in a lot of gallery spaces," Bozeman told Axios about her accessible public art. The project, which began in October, represents an exciting evolution in Bozeman's artistic journey that began just one year ago with a casual paint and sip session at home.

Neighborhood visitors and residents are encouraged to take advantage of the warmer spring weather in the coming months to discover all seven painted boxes during walks through Andersonville. The utility box art project adds another creative dimension to the neighborhood's already vibrant arts scene, which includes the Andersonville Galleria and other arts venues that have established the area as a hub for local creative talent.
