Washington Park Framework Plan Enters Community Engagement Phase for 2026
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Washington Park ·
Washington Park residents will soon have increased opportunities to shape the future of their historic green space as the Chicago Park District's Washington Park Framework Plan moves into its next phase of community engagement in 2026. The ambitious project, which began in Spring 2022, is led by MUSE Community + Design, a woman-owned urban planning firm with extensive experience leading equity-centered planning processes across Chicago.
The project team includes Rudd Resources, a woman- and Black-owned public relations firm based on Chicago's South Side, which is leading community outreach efforts, while the award-winning landscape architecture team at Hitchcock Design Group handles technical and design aspects. The updated framework aims to guide improvements to this vital 345-acre community resource, which will also host the African/Caribbean International Festival of Life from July 3-5, 2026, highlighting the park's role as a cultural hub.
Community members interested in contributing to the framework plan can attend the Washington Park Advisory Council's monthly meetings, held on the third Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. The Park District encourages residents to participate in this historic opportunity to shape one of Chicago's most significant landscapes for future generations while honoring its rich cultural heritage.
