A Speakeasy-Era Bar & a NYC Bodega Duo Hit Milwaukee Ave: Wicker Park's Hot Streak Rolls On
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Wicker Park ·
Wicker Park's Milwaukee Avenue corridor is on a serious roll, and this week brings not one, not two, but three fresh reasons to step out and explore your neighborhood.
First, cocktail lovers, circle Monday, May 11 on your calendars: The Alley Cat is officially opening its doors. The brand-new Wicker Park bar is channeling the architecture and design vibes of Chicago from the 1920s through the 1940s — think moody Prohibition-era atmosphere with a contemporary twist. It's the kind of neighborhood watering hole that promises to become a fast favorite for anyone who loves a well-crafted drink with serious old-Chicago soul.
Meanwhile, a beloved Chicago deli has already planted its flag on Milwaukee Avenue. Chicago Pickle Eatery — the brand that launched in 2023 with a mission to bring New York City bodega-style sandwiches and breakfast and lunch staples to Chicago — has opened its third location at 1308 N. Milwaukee Ave., taking over the former Angry Crab space. Owner Mohamad Atieh completely overhauled the interior, and he's even adding crepes, waffles, and Belgian chocolates to the menu. Even better: right next door at 1310 N. Milwaukee Ave., a new plant-based restaurant called Green Ape has also opened, run by Chef Bri (Briana Houston), featuring creative dishes like lion's mane mushroom wings and other inventive plant-based options.
Three new neighborhood spots in one week — that's Wicker Park doing what it does best. Stop in, say hello, and keep supporting the local businesses that make this neighborhood one of Chicago's best. Follow updates at wickerparkbucktown.com!
