Your Neighborhood Needs You This Week: Wicker Park Advisory Council Holds Leadership Election May 21

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Wicker Park ·

Wicker Park's civic heartbeat is front and center this week, and neighbors have a real opportunity to shape the future of their beloved park. The Wicker Park Advisory Council (WPAC) is holding its rescheduled May community meeting on Thursday, May 21 at 6:30 p.m. inside the Wicker Park Field House at 1425 N. Damen Ave. — and this one carries extra weight. On the agenda: a formal election for the President of the Wicker Park Advisory Council, making this one of the more consequential public gatherings the park community will see this year. As always, the meeting is open to all residents and is a direct line to shaping how the park evolves.

And while you're thinking about the park, the volunteer gardening season is in full swing. The WPAC is actively recruiting Saturday volunteer gardeners to help maintain the park's stunning ornamental community gardens — a beloved 10,000-square-foot green space designed, funded, and tended entirely by neighborhood volunteers. It's a hands-in-the-dirt way to give back and connect with your neighbors all growing season long.

Looking further ahead, Wicker Park Fest is locking in its dates for July 24–26 on Milwaukee Avenue — and this summer's edition carries new urgency. The Wicker Park Bucktown Chamber of Commerce's Executive Director Pamela Maass has launched the Save Our Street Fests Coalition, uniting 30+ nonprofit festival organizers citywide to combat soaring production costs that threaten Chicago's beloved street fest tradition.
