Live Music, Open Mics & Car-Free Sundays: Wicker Park's Summer of Community Kicks Off in Style

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Wicker Park ·

Wicker Park neighbors, your summer social calendar is about to get a serious upgrade — and it's all happening right in your backyard.

The Wicker Park Advisory Council has locked in a packed lineup of free outdoor concerts as part of the Chicago Park District's Night Out in the Parks series, bringing live music to the green at 1425 N. Damen Ave. all summer long. From jazz orchestras to community bands, the performances are fully funded and produced by WPAC — a testament to what neighbor-driven civic investment looks like in action. Even better: Wicker MIC, the neighborhood's beloved open-mic event, is also returning to the park this season. Grab a picnic blanket, bring a lawn chair, and — if you've got a talent to share — bring that too. Musicians, comedians, poets, and performers of all ages and skill levels are welcome to take the stage.

And come August, Milwaukee Avenue itself becomes the stage. A new monthly event called Meet Me on Milwaukee will close the iconic corridor to cars on the last Sunday of each month, transforming the street into a pedestrian and community celebration. It's a bold, joyful vision for one of Chicago's most storied commercial strips. Whether you come for the concerts, the open mic, or the car-free strolls, Wicker Park is serving up a summer that's all about showing up and being present with your neighbors.
