Chinatown's Legendary Dumpling House Has Officially Landed on Division Street — and Wicker Park Is Already Lining Up
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Wicker Park ·
Wicker Park's Division Street just got a serious culinary upgrade. Qing Xiang Yuan Dumplings — better known as QXY, the beloved BYOB dumpling institution that's been packing in crowds at its Chinatown location for over a decade — has opened its much-anticipated second full-service location at 2018 W. Division St. The Chinatown original is famously walk-in only and almost always has a wait, so neighbors who've been making the trek south now have a hometown spot to call their own.
The Wicker Park outpost brings virtually the same celebrated menu of northern Chinese dishes: boiled, steamed, and pan-fried dumplings with fillings ranging from halal lamb and wagyu beef to sea urchin and crab roe, plus starters like cucumber salad, spicy cabbage kimchi, and pig ears with chili oil. General manager Jesse Li and the QXY team spent over a year renovating the space, which previously housed El Bagel Cafe and Picante Taqueria. And the fun doesn't stop at dumplings — once the liquor license comes through, the restaurant plans to carry Asahi, Tsingtao, and a special lager brewed in collaboration with Off Color Brewing, made with an aromatic herbal tea. Wine pairings with specific dumpling dishes are also slated to arrive by summer.
"A lot of our regulars have been saying we need another location — our first location is always packed, always a long wait," Li said. This is neighborhood dining done right. Head to 2018 W. Division St. to see what all the fuss is about — and follow updates at wickerparkbucktown.com!
