Chicago's Most Beloved Cinnamon Rolls Are Coming to Division Street: Ann Sather Sets Up Shop in Wicker Park This July
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Wicker Park ·
Good news for brunch lovers in Wicker Park — one of Chicago's most iconic breakfast institutions is moving into the neighborhood. Ann Sather, the Swedish breakfast and lunch staple that has been a Chicago fixture for decades, is opening a new location at 1819 W. Division St., taking over the former Yolk restaurant space on the Wicker Park–West Town border. A sign already posted in the window confirms it's "coming in July."
Owner Tom Tunney — who served the Lakeview area as alderman for 20 years — is relocating after the brand's longtime Belmont Avenue home is slated to close this summer to make way for a new apartment development. The Division Street outpost promises to be a serious upgrade in scale and experience: plans call for an indoor capacity of roughly 150 diners, a to-go bakery section stocked with Ann Sather's legendary cinnamon rolls and fresh pastries, and a sidewalk café that will add 40 to 50 more seats for al fresco dining. "Our goal is to emulate what we did here on Belmont," Tunney said. "We've been pretty successful at it."
For a stretch of Division Street that has seen steady culinary investment lately, Ann Sather's arrival feels like a major stamp of confidence in the neighborhood. Whether you're a lifelong devotee of those famously gooey rolls or a first-timer ready to find out what all the fuss is about, this July opening is one to put on your calendar.
