Uptown's Building Boom Keeps Rolling: New Mixed-Use Development Greenlit Steps from the Historic Broadway Corridor
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Uptown ·
Uptown's transformation into one of Chicago's most dynamic neighborhoods just picked up another head of steam. A newly approved mixed-use development at 4725 N. Clifton Avenue — right at the intersection with North Broadway — is set to replace part of a large surface parking lot just north of the iconic Uptown Broadway Building, signaling yet another infill win for the neighborhood's booming Square District.
The five-story project is being led by CEDARst Companies, best known for its popular Flats developments across the city, and designed by local architecture firm Hirsch MPG. The ground floor will feature retail space on the southern half of the building facing Broadway, with a residential lobby on the northern half — a layout that promises to activate the streetscape and add pedestrian energy to one of Uptown's most storied blocks. The project sailed through the Plan Review Committee, requiring no rezoning, a sign that Uptown's development momentum is increasingly aligned with what the community has already envisioned for its future.
And Clifton isn't the only site buzzing with new energy — a sweeping new proposal for 25- and 12-story buildings on the east side of Sheridan Road is also circulating, hinting that Uptown's skyline story is far from finished. From infill retail to landmark-adjacent towers, the neighborhood is building with purpose. Excited about what's rising in Uptown?
