Run, Read, and Root for Uptown: A 5K, a Book Sale, and New Homes Near Chase Park

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Uptown ·

Uptown is lacing up its sneakers, dusting off its bookshelves, and laying a fresh foundation — all at once — making this one of the most exciting weeks the neighborhood has seen all summer.

First, the big event happening right now: the Dim Sum & Then Some 5K/10K & Kids Dash is taking place today, Saturday, August 1, in the heart of Uptown. Billed as a fun, family-friendly race celebrating culture, community, wellness, and giving back, this one-of-a-kind run blends Argyle's vibrant Asian-American spirit with the kind of neighborhood pride that makes Uptown truly special. Whether you're crossing the finish line or cheering from the sidelines, it's the perfect way to kick off August.

Meanwhile, book lovers have a reason to mark their calendars: the beloved Friends of Bezazian Library Book Sale is returning on September 19–20 at the Bezazian Branch Library at 1226 W. Ainslie Street. The Friends of Bezazian — a 501(c)(3) nonprofit — is now accepting donations of gently used books, CDs, and DVDs at the library circulation desk starting August 8. And on the development front, a proposal is moving forward to build 95 apartments next to Chase Park — a significant infill project that could bring dozens of new neighbors to one of Uptown's most beloved green spaces, with community input shaping the path forward.

From today's festive footrace to a literary community tradition and fresh housing on the horizon, Uptown's summer momentum is showing absolutely no signs of slowing down. Did you run the 5K today? Got books to donate? Tell us all about it in the comments and stay connected at exploreuptown.org!
