Bubble Tea, New Apartments, and a Win for Families: Uptown's Summer Momentum Keeps Rolling

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Uptown ·

Uptown neighbors have plenty of fresh reasons to celebrate this week, with a trio of exciting neighborhood updates landing all at once.

First, a sweet new arrival is headed to 5000 N. Sheridan: Presotea, a beloved Taiwanese bubble tea franchise with a growing U.S. footprint, is set to open one of its two Chicago locations right here in Uptown. Known for its wide range of customizable teas and fresh-fruit drinks, Presotea is a welcome addition to Sheridan Road's commercial corridor — and a sure sign that Uptown's retail scene continues to attract exciting new names.

Meanwhile, the Argyle Street district's ongoing transformation has a new chapter: work will soon begin to convert the office space above the legendary Sun Wah BBQ at 5041 N. Broadway into residential apartments, with leasing expected to begin in 2027. For neighbors who love Sun Wah's famous Peking duck — and who wouldn't? — the idea of living steps away from one of Chicago's most iconic dining institutions is a dream come true.

And in a win for community advocates, Alderman Leni Manaa-Hoppenworth announced she will support the revised Emanuel Congregation development plans after the developer agreed to include more family-sized housing units, public bathrooms, and donations for nearby park improvements — a testament to Uptown's engaged, community-first spirit.

Uptown keeps proving it's one of Chicago's most exciting neighborhoods to call home. Which of these updates are you most excited about? Share your thoughts in the comments and stay connected at exploreuptown.org!
