Mark Your Calendar: Moving Archer Forward Unveils Its Draft Plan at July 8 Open House — and Your Voice Still Matters

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Archer Heights ·

After more than a year of community surveys, pop-up outreach events, and packed public meetings, the Moving Archer Forward planning process is hitting a major milestone — and Archer Heights neighbors have one more crucial chance to shape what comes next. The Chicago Department of Planning and Development (DPD) is hosting a public open house at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 8 at Mother Teresa Hall, St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta Parish, 2832 S. Quinn St. It's the first opportunity for the community to see the full draft plan for Archer Avenue before it heads toward potential Plan Commission adoption later this summer.

The draft plan covers the Archer Avenue corridor from Halsted Street to Cicero Avenue — running right through the heart of Archer Heights — and tackles big-picture priorities like land use, housing, pedestrian safety, and transit-oriented development near CTA Orange Line stations. Community feedback gathered over the past year has pointed toward themes of accessibility, open space, safety lighting, and support for local businesses. Now neighbors get to see how all of that input shaped the actual recommendations on paper.

This is the moment to show up, ask questions, and make sure the plan reflects what Archer Heights truly needs. The open house is free and open to all. For updates, visit chicago.gov/Archer2025 or sign up for DPD email notifications directly on the Moving Archer Forward website.
