A New Chapter for Uptown: Books4Cause Is Opening on Wilson Avenue — and It's Free to Browse
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Uptown ·
Book lovers and community connectors, take note: Uptown is about to get a wonderful new literary neighbor. Books4Cause is opening its third Chicago-area location at 1225 W. Wilson Avenue — the former home of the Chicago Center for Photojournalism — with opening day set for July 10. That's just days away, and the buzz in the neighborhood is already building.
The new spot is designed as a hybrid model unlike any other bookstore in the area. Part freecycle library and part low-cost used bookstore, Books4Cause gives donated books, CDs, and DVDs the best possible second life — whether that means putting them directly in neighbors' hands for free or reselling select items to keep the operation running. Eagle-eyed Uptown residents spotted bookshelves going in and volunteers stocking shelves late into the night over the weekend, a sure sign that the team is eager to throw open the doors. The Magnolia Malden Block Club was among the first to spread the word to the community. Books4Cause currently runs locations at 2931 N. Milwaukee Ave in Chicago and 7080 N. McCormick Blvd in Skokie.
This Wilson Avenue arrival is exactly the kind of community-rooted gem that makes Uptown special — a space where literacy, affordability, and neighborly spirit all share a shelf. Mark your calendars for July 10, stop by 1225 W. Wilson, and bring a donation to pay it forward! Have a favorite book you'd love to pass along?
