From Reggae to Roots Revival: Washington Park's Summer Programming Is in Full Swing This Week

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Washington Park ·

Washington Park neighbors, the holiday weekend may be behind us, but the good times are absolutely still rolling. The park's jam-packed Summer Porch Hours calendar kept the community buzzing all week long with a lineup that had something for everyone — and this week is shaping up to be just as good.

Kicking off the post-holiday stretch on Tuesday, July 1, the park hosted Yappy Hour presented by Mission Vet Urgent Care (6–8 p.m.) — a pet-friendly social that brought four-legged friends and their neighbors together on the green. That same evening, Washington Park closed out the night with a full reggae set from Zion Lion (6–10 p.m.), filling the park with soulful island rhythms under the summer sky. Wednesday, July 2 brought a mellower but equally memorable night: Roots Revival, featuring Casey Campbell & Ruby Vileos, ran from 6 to 9 p.m., showcasing Americana-tinged acoustic sounds in a beautiful outdoor setting. And rounding out the midweek fun, neighbors settled in for a Cinema night screening of the beloved animated classic Cars — a perfect family-friendly way to close out the evening.

With Trivia Night, Petals in the Park, and more on the horizon through the rest of July, there is truly no better place to spend a summer evening than right here in Washington Park. Head to washingtonpark.org for the full events calendar, and don't miss the Washington Park Advisory Council, which meets every third Wednesday at 7 p.m. — because a neighborhood this vibrant deserves an equally engaged community.
