Splash, Serve, and Sign Up: Washington Park's August Is Already Off to a Running Start
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Washington Park ·
Washington Park neighbors, August is here — and the neighborhood is wasting absolutely no time making it count. The Washington Park Refectory Pool officially kicked off its late-summer schedule on Sunday, August 3, running all the way through August 21. If you haven't yet taken advantage of one of the South Side's most beloved aquatic spaces this summer, now is your last best chance to cool off before the season winds down.
Looking a little further ahead on the cultural calendar, the Green Line Performing Arts Center at 329 E. Garfield Blvd. is hosting a 'Tour the Arts Block' event on Friday, August 14 at 7 p.m. — a perfect opportunity to explore the creative corridor that's been buzzing with new energy all summer long. And for families thinking about fall, today — Tuesday, August 4 — is the official first day of online registration for Chicago Park District fall programs at Washington Park, with classes running from September through December. From fitness and dance to after-school programming, there's something for every age group.
On the development front, the neighborhood continues to attract investment: the recently approved XS Tennis Residences + Hotel project at 5301 S. State Street will bring 51 residential units and 125 hotel keys to Washington Park in a striking five- and six-story mixed-use development. It's yet another sign that this community's momentum is real and building. Stay plugged in with the Washington Park Advisory Council — meeting every third Wednesday at 7 p.m. — and visit washingtonpark.org for full details.
