Jazz, Nature Stewardship & Ghanafest: Washington Park's Mid-August Calendar Is Overflowing

Washington Park neighbors, if you thought the summer calendar was winding down, think again — this week and the weeks ahead are absolutely stacked with fresh reasons to get outside and get involved.
Kick things off with the sounds of the Keigo Hirakawa Trio, which headlined Jazz at the Park on Monday, August 10 from 6 to 9 p.m. — one of the summer series' most buzzed-about bookings yet. And the rhythm doesn't stop there: Summer Porch Hours continue daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., giving neighbors a breezy, laid-back community hub right in the heart of the park all week long. Meanwhile, conservation nonprofit Openlands has been activating Washington Park with volunteer stewardship events, with upcoming dates on August 15 and August 16 offering residents a hands-on way to protect and beautify the green spaces that make this neighborhood so special. And saving perhaps the biggest headline for last: Ghanafest is returning to Washington Park after a one-year hiatus — a joyful, culture-rich celebration of West African heritage, music, food, and community that the South Side has been eagerly awaiting.
