Uptown's Farmers Market Refuses to Hibernate: Winter Edition Heads Indoors to the Uptown Taproom Starting November 14

By Socialhood News · Uptown ·

Uptown neighbors, the season may be turning cold, but the neighborhood's beloved farmers market isn't going anywhere. In a move announced this week, the Uptown Farmers Market is heading indoors for the winter — and it has found a natural home at the Uptown Taproom, 1265 W. Wilson Ave., starting Saturday, November 14.

The announcement came November 3 via Uptown Update, with organizers describing it as the first-ever winter edition of the market. "We're excited to host the first winter edition of the Uptown Farmers Market, held at the Uptown Taproom," organizers wrote, noting it will be "a small (but mighty!) market with 5-6 vendors filling the space every Saturday from 11 AM to 2 PM, starting November 14th." For a neighborhood whose outdoor Wednesday market has been a warm-weather anchor all season long, the indoor winter edition represents a genuine first — and a commitment to keeping local agriculture and small-business commerce visible in the community year-round.

The winter market will accept SNAP and offer Link Match, which doubles the purchasing power of SNAP benefits — a meaningful equity commitment that makes the market accessible to Uptown's full economic range of residents. The winter market schedule runs November 14 and November 21, closes the week of Thanksgiving, then resumes December 5, December 12, and December 19, closing again for Christmas and New Year's weekends before the outdoor market returns on the first Wednesday in May.

The partnership with the Uptown Taproom is itself part of the story. Organizers thanked the Taproom for opening its event space, noting: "Farmers markets are fundamentally about bringing community together, and the Uptown Taproom does that year-round." Special thanks were extended to Andy, the owner, and Ben and Rhea, the managers, along with the full Taproom staff "for supporting local farmers and small businesses through the colder months." In addition to market vendors, neighbors can enjoy the Taproom's menu and local craft beers — something organizers hope many people discover or rediscover this winter. Wilson Avenue at 1265 is a short walk from the CTA Red Line's Wilson stop, making the Saturday market easy to reach from across the North Side.

If you haven't yet made it to the final outdoor market of the season, there's still one chance: the last outdoor market of 2026 runs this Wednesday, November 4, with the usual 30-or-so vendors, plus a pumpkin smash. After that, 1265 W. Wilson becomes Uptown's winter market home.

While the farmers market news gives residents something to look forward to on Saturday mornings, two development stories this week signal that Uptown's construction momentum has not slowed as temperatures drop. According to Urbanize Chicago's November 2 report, a foundation permit was issued for a development at 4920 N. Sheridan — a five-story project that will deliver 31 units. That permit marks a meaningful milestone: foundation work is where a project stops being a rendering and starts becoming a building. And separately, a demo permit was issued to make way for a mixed-use project at 4740 N. Clark, though that development still needs city approvals. Together, the two permits add to what has been an exceptionally active year for residential construction on Uptown's key corridors — Sheridan and Clark both continuing to absorb new density in a neighborhood that keeps proving its desirability.

And for neighbors looking for something to do indoors this month beyond the farmers market, TimeLine Theatre — which opened its landmark new permanent home at 5035 N. Broadway earlier this year — has its next production on the boards. "Home, I'm Darling" runs November 11 through December 13 at TimeLine's Uptown space; it's described as the Chicago premiere of a sharp satire of 1950s suburban American life in which a couple chooses to inhabit a midcentury throwback lifestyle — including strict gender roles — in contemporary times. From a farmers market finding its first winter home to new foundations going in on Sheridan and Clark, Uptown's fall-to-winter transition is anything but quiet.
