Former 7-Eleven Transforms into Vibrant Music Hub in Graceland West

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Graceland West ·

Graceland West residents now have a new cultural destination as Access Contemporary Music (ACM) has successfully transformed a long-vacant 7-Eleven at 4116 N. Clark Street into 'The CheckOut,' a unique music venue and school that opened last month.

The venue, located in the heart of Graceland West, aims to serve the neighborhood and provide a new home for classical music on the North Side. The space includes a performance area with a Yamaha concert grand piano, flexible seating for up to 60 audience members, four teaching rooms, and a bar. It offers classical music concerts, cabarets, album listening parties, and film screenings. In a playful nod to its convenience store past, the venue features 7-Eleven-themed touches such as adult slushies and bespoke lottery tickets.

According to Jesse Orr from Alderperson Angela Clay's office, "Folks were excited about having this kind of small cultural institution in the neighborhood... The more neighborhood businesses that flourish in the city, the better we are as a city." For our community, the renovation signals not only an investment in the arts but also a revitalization of a long-empty property that will now serve as a center for creativity and learning. Residents interested in exploring this new neighborhood gem can check out upcoming events or consider enrolling in music classes.
