Graceland West Unveils Winter Cycle Celebration to Promote Year-Round Sustainable Transportation

By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Graceland West ·

As Chicago prepares for the holiday season, Graceland West is embracing sustainability with the announcement of its first Winter Cycle Celebration. The event, revealed last week by the Graceland West Community Association (GWCA), aims to promote cycling as a year-round transportation option while building on the neighborhood's growing reputation for environmental initiatives.

The celebration, scheduled for November 21, will build on the success of the neighborhood's popular Earth Week cycling event held earlier this year. Like its predecessor, the winter edition will feature a community bike parade through Graceland West's tree-lined streets, a bike parts swap and donation station in partnership with The Recyclery, and adaptive bikes provided by Quantum LEEP Academy to ensure the event is inclusive for all participants. The winter-themed version will add festive decorations and hot chocolate stations along the route.

"The Graceland West Community Association has been a cornerstone of neighborhood life since 1979, regularly organizing events that bring neighbors together," noted Sarah Maxwell, a local resident involved in planning the celebration. Residents interested in participating or volunteering can contact [email protected] or follow GWCA on social media for updates and registration information.
