Wheels Up, Neighbors: Graceland West's Community Bike Event Rolls Through the North Side in Style
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Graceland West ·
Graceland West's love of two wheels got its moment in the sun this spring when the Graceland West Community Association hosted a community cycling event at Lake View High School — and from the looks of it, the neighborhood showed up in full force. The event brought together riders of all ages for a morning packed with purpose and fun, anchored by a Bike & Bike Parts Swap in partnership with The Recyclery, giving unused bikes and gear a new life rather than a landfill.
The lineup didn't stop there. Pedalheads set up a kids' obstacle course to help young riders build confidence on two wheels, while a Bike Decoration Station — co-hosted with students and staff from Quantum LEEP Academy on Montrose Ave — let participants trick out their rides before the main event: an all-ages, all-are-welcome bike parade rolling through the tree-lined blocks of Graceland West. Adaptive bikes were also available courtesy of Quantum LEEP Academy, making sure no neighbor was left on the sidelines.
It's exactly the kind of grassroots, joyful, sustainably-minded programming that has come to define Graceland West's civic identity — neighborly, green, and genuinely fun. The GWCA continues to bring residents together through the summer season with more events on the horizon.
