Your July 4th Weekend Just Got a Major Upgrade: The African/Caribbean Festival of Life Is Returning to Washington Park
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Washington Park ·
Washington Park neighbors, mark your calendars — one of Chicago's most vibrant cultural celebrations is just days away. The African/Caribbean International Festival of Life returns to Washington Park the July 4th weekend (July 3–5), bringing a dazzling showcase of music, cuisine, art, and traditions from African and Caribbean nations right to your backyard. It's the perfect way to kick off the holiday weekend without leaving the neighborhood.
And the good vibes don't stop there. Earlier this year, Washington Park got a meaningful academic boost when the Big Ten Conference, in partnership with the College Football Playoff Foundation, Brilliance and Excellence, and My Brother's Keeper Chicago, awarded Edmund Burke Elementary School — right here in the neighborhood — a $50,000 grant to renovate a shared space on campus. Burke Elementary students even got the star treatment, performing on the floor of the United Center during the Big Ten Men's Basketball Tournament. It's a powerful reminder that Washington Park's youngest residents are being seen, invested in, and celebrated.
From world-class cultural festivals to real investments in local schools, Washington Park is having a moment — and it's only getting started. Head to Washington Park this July 4th weekend to soak up the sounds, flavors, and spirit of the African/Caribbean International Festival of Life, and stay connected with the Washington Park Advisory Council (every third Wednesday, 7 p.m.) to keep up with everything happening in this incredible neighborhood.
