Fresh Faces and Blooming Gardens: Graceland West Gears Up for July Council Elections and the Annual Garden Walk
By Socialhood News · Il/Chicago/Graceland West ·
July is shaping up to be one of the most participatory months on the Graceland West calendar — and the Graceland West Community Association is calling on neighbors to show up in two big ways.
First, democracy is literally blooming in the neighborhood. Per the GWCA's bylaws, three council seats come up for election every July, giving residents a direct hand in shaping the all-volunteer organization that has anchored the community since 1979. Whether you've been thinking about taking a more active civic role or simply want to make sure your neighbors' voices are represented, now is the moment. New council members define their own focus — from sustainability initiatives to local business partnerships — making each seat a blank canvas for community impact. Interested neighbors can reach out at [email protected] to learn more about running or voting.
Second, the GWCA's cherished Garden Walk is in full swing, inviting residents to wander through Graceland West's blooming backstreets and get inspired by their neighbors' green handiwork — a perfect complement to a neighborhood whose identity is deeply rooted in lush greenery, old oak trees, and love of the outdoors. Sign-ups to show your garden or volunteer are open now at gracelandwest.org/garden-walk. Stay connected with everything unfolding this July at gracelandwest.org and @graceland_west_gwca on Instagram.
